Mar. 6th, 2012 07:33 pm[Po is standing in front of the elevator on the third deck, hands in his pockets. He seems to be staring intently at it. His posture is very relaxed, but there's obviously something about the elevator occupying his mind. Every so often he jabs one button or the other with a finger and waits for the doors to open, but he doesn't get on. That, for anyone who wants to know, is because he's ridden the elevator up and down for the past hour. He's still fascinated by it. If you speak to him, though, he will be happy enough to make conversation with you.]

Date: 2012-03-07 05:30 am (UTC)Hello. Do you mind if I ask what you're doing?
Haha, this should be interesting. Susan Ivanova already warned him against you, Charles!
Date: 2012-03-07 06:01 am (UTC)Now the man in the chair is in front of him, and Po smiles. He angles his head down so that he seems to be looking at the man. He can tell that the interest in why he has been examining this lift is genuine... but why is there that strange buzzing in his head again? This entire ship has been murder on his new senses, but suddenly his head feels quite painful again... Still. He can steady himself if he needs to.]
Ah, I am sorry if I've been bothering you. I'm only interested in the lift and how it works. We have something like this where I am from, but it is huge and powered by horses, and that doesn't seem to be the case here.
[In fact he can sense how it works, in part: he can feel the steel cables and the pulley system and even the tiny sparks of lightning that rush through the pullies as it moves... but he doesn't see how the lightning makes it move.]
Aw Susan, why you hate :c
Date: 2012-03-07 06:22 am (UTC)[But then again, who really knows around here? It's not like the rest of the ship bothers to follow the laws of science at all, ever, so why would the lift, really? That seemed almost like too much to ask for.]
Are the ones used where you're from for transporting people as well, or supplies, or...? Giant and powered by horses is a bit different from what I'm used to.
Because there are waaay more telepaths on board than should be allowed. T_T
Date: 2012-03-07 06:39 am (UTC)But the man has asked him a question. He blinks and swallows once, trying to bring his mind back to the present.]
Only supplies, usually. And there is only one of these in the city, and it lies in the open air. But what do you mean by saying it is "electric"?
[Not that he's particularly interested in the answer at the moment. He just wants to stop being dizzy.]
Charles is well behaved :c
Date: 2012-03-07 06:45 am (UTC)So he ignored the question in favor of frowning in concern, noticing the dizziness and wondering what had happened. Now would be a time where having more experience with people who had powers similar to his own would come in handy.]
Are you alright?
...Po is paranoid? Or something.
Date: 2012-03-07 06:55 am (UTC)I - yes, of course. I am new to this environment; I still find myself growing dizzy from the ship's movement.
[He's pretty sure that what he's just said makes no sense: this barge does not move the way a ship cutting through the waves does. He can come up with a better lie soon, he's sure of it - just not until his head stops spinning.]
It's legitimate lol
Date: 2012-03-07 07:01 am (UTC)You're sure?
He's never had to deal with any telepath but himself before T_T
Date: 2012-03-07 07:15 am (UTC)Yes, I am. We've nothing like this in my home.
We don't all bite Po :C
Date: 2012-03-07 07:21 am (UTC)[He decided to let it go for now, but keep a wary eye out, because if he was going to collapse on the floor, Charles wasn't exactly the best person to drag him down to the infirmary.]
Charles Xavier. I don't believe we've met.
Re: We don't all bite Po :C
Date: 2012-03-07 07:36 am (UTC)No, we haven't. I'm Po.

Date: 2012-03-07 07:41 am (UTC)Of course, I'm not quite sure if that is what this runs on. The Barge doesn't seem to follow most of the conventions of science I'm used to.

Date: 2012-03-07 07:55 am (UTC)I'm afraid it doesn't follow any of the conventions I'm used to.
[He raises his eyes again. The silver eye appears almost white in the fluorescent lighting. Both of his eyes seem to focus, but they seem to be looking through Xavier, rather than at him.]

Date: 2012-03-07 07:59 am (UTC)It takes a bit of adjustment, but I'm certain you'll find your footing sooner rather than later. [He's quiet for a moment, studying him briefly before just coming out with it.]
Pardon my asking, but are you blind?
[Subtle, Charles is not. Often.]

Date: 2012-03-07 08:17 am (UTC)But then his eyes shift down to the ground again. His jaw is set. His heart thuds between his ribs and a lump in his throat makes him feel short of breath. His voice is low and heavy with sorrow, a slight tremor just audible in its tones.]
Yes.
[He's almost surprised at how it breaks his heart to hear the word used. He hasn't spoken to a soul about it; he hadn't met anyone for months after his vision left him... but now he's faced with the truth. Hearing the word makes it sink in. He's blind. And he will never see again.]

Date: 2012-03-07 08:30 am (UTC)Charles definitely did not need to be a telepath to figure out what that kind of response meant, and there's a huge rush of guilt and sympathy once he realizes the effect his question had on him.
So immediately, he's scrambling for an apology, a sincere one, too, because even if it's not the same, he does know how awful it is to admit something like that, even weeks after it had happened, and despite what he'd said to Erik after the port, it was still hard to admit to himself that he wasn't just going to get better, so he thinks he understands.]
Po, I am so sorry, I didn't- I didn't mean anything by it. I was just- [Curious, really, but that wasn't an excuse and he shouldn't be trying to make one, he's grown up enough to realize that.] I'm sorry. Truly.

Date: 2012-03-07 08:41 am (UTC)Am I that obvious?

Date: 2012-03-10 04:37 am (UTC)I've had a bit of personal experience with something similar as of late. [Obviously referring to his paralysis and the chair, but also because of the Barge, he's had to experience life without his telepathy, too, and that was just as bad.] Not that it's the same at all, obviously, but... I understand how difficult losing something that vital can be.

Date: 2012-03-14 03:36 am (UTC)You seem to take it better than I have done here... I apologize.
[And he really means it. He doesn't want to make this man uncomfortable.]
And perhaps you have it even worse. You can't hide your lack as I can.

Date: 2012-03-09 11:11 am (UTC)...Just use the stairs.
[Because that's the sensible thing. If it doesn't strike as safe, don't take chances.]

Date: 2012-03-14 03:48 am (UTC)Oh, excuse me, I didn't see you there. Do you need to use this... device?

Date: 2012-03-14 07:29 am (UTC)[Eying the elevator now, too. Oh, sure, let me just get in there and trust it to not drop me six floors, because machines never ever malfunction.]
You've been here for awhile, though.

Date: 2012-03-15 01:53 am (UTC)[He acts as friendly and talkative as usual; if this man is friendly, perhaps he can actually get some answers and quench his curiosity.]

Date: 2012-03-11 05:35 am (UTC)Hey, Po. Something on your mind?

Date: 2012-03-14 03:38 am (UTC)Hello, Flemming. I was just admiring this device here. Do you have such things where you are from?
no subject
Date: 2012-03-14 09:23 pm (UTC)Yeah, I do.
[He smiles a bit. It's strange talking to someone who is so far removed from what he's used to. But then, this is a strange place.]

Date: 2012-03-15 01:54 am (UTC)Do you know how it works?
no subject
Date: 2012-03-15 03:23 am (UTC)[And he explains it the best he can, hoping it's not too over Po's head.]
I usually take the stairs, though. Personal preference of mine.

Date: 2012-03-17 04:07 am (UTC)Is electricity used in many things on this vessel?
[He already knows that it is from his senses, but he never lets on anything he thinks that perhaps he shouldn't know. And Flemming may have more to say about it than Po already knows.]

Date: 2012-03-17 06:38 am (UTC)Probably. This technology is mostly foreign to me, though, so it's possible it's something else.
[He was still very much interested in trying to find a way to tinker with the systems. See how they work, what uses they had. Always scientifically minded, he wanted to figure out how everything worked.]
I'd say it's fairly likely, though. I'm not sure what else it could be. Unless it's something altogether new.
Eek! Sorry for the late reply!
Date: 2012-03-25 05:17 am (UTC)As I understand it, there are some on this vessel who are more at ease with these devices than others. But few whom I've met have been as bemused by it as I have. Am I right in thinking that this electricity is a fairly new invention in your world?
No problem!
Date: 2012-03-25 11:06 pm (UTC)[He pauses, thinking of a way to explain it.]
I'm just interested in how it works here.
Re: No problem!
Date: 2012-03-28 04:38 pm (UTC)So it can work differently depending on how you use it? Does it often power things aside from these lifts?
no subject
Date: 2012-03-30 11:05 pm (UTC)No, it's... well, yes. It can do a lot of things.
But nothing like this exists where I am. Not exactly. It's different enough to be curious.

Date: 2012-04-04 05:57 pm (UTC)I'm very glad I am not the only one who doesn't understand this place. The technology here, what someone has been able to do with metal and wood... it's like nothing I've ever seen.
[He wishes he could see it now, too. But being able to touch it, to sense it, well, that's the next best thing. And now, he's even got time to try and learn about them.]
