[A new voice comes from the communicators. It is low and just a bit gravelly, with a gently lilting accent. For a moment it is muffled, as if someone has his hand over the microphone, but then it clears up.]
Ah, hello? Is it true that if I speak into this device, people can hear me from afar?
[There is a short, disbelieving laugh.]
It's marvelous. Whoever invented it should sell it to my people. They would become hideously wealthy in days.
[Action spam for anyone on level 4.]
[The man walking down the corridor has the strangest eyes. One is pale and silvery; the other is not so much brown as golden. Each color alone could be considered beautiful, if unusual; but both set in his face they end up making him look jarringly uneven, rather than beautiful. He's also got small gold hoop earrings in each ear and a hoard of rings on his fingers. His simple travelling clothes look old, but they are clean and look as if they may once have been expensive. He's got a long stride, but he is walking unhurriedly. In his hand is the communicator, which his thumb keeps grazing over. If you approach him, he will smile and greet you.]

Date: 2012-02-19 04:55 pm (UTC)Of course. Please, begin.

Re: [Action]
Date: 2012-02-20 06:13 am (UTC)Yes, it makes perfect sense. You explain it well.

Date: 2012-02-21 09:45 pm (UTC)Great! Glad to hear it.
Re: [Action]
Date: 2012-02-22 02:58 pm (UTC)If you wish only for a few people to hear what you have said, how do you tell the device which people you want to include?
[Action]
Date: 2012-02-22 11:40 pm (UTC)The same way you do so with one person. I... think you have to know the name of everyone, though I've never actually tried.
Re: [Action]
Date: 2012-02-23 03:36 am (UTC)I still have trouble understanding how a machine can write letters, having no writing implements and no hands. Transmitting a voice is strange and amazing, but somehow writing seems even less likely.
[He doesn't say it as if he doesn't believe it; more as if he's floored by the very notion. Which he certainly is.]

Date: 2012-02-24 09:56 am (UTC)But if each letter has its own stamp, it must take practice to spell words quickly.

Date: 2012-02-28 04:12 am (UTC)How do you have any privacy, if someone can call on you directly at any time?
[He should talk. And he sees the irony. But he won't mention it.]
[Action]
Date: 2012-02-28 04:31 am (UTC)Just don't answer. That, and people tend not to call when it's too late. There's still etiquette, of course.
Re: [Action]
Date: 2012-02-29 02:37 pm (UTC)How late is too late to call upon someone?
[Action]
Date: 2012-03-01 03:35 am (UTC)Maybe not after nine PM or so, here?
Re: [Action]
Date: 2012-03-02 05:24 am (UTC)And what other etiquette should I know? May I only call upon those I have met in person already? Or may I only speak in my own rooms?

Date: 2012-03-07 06:10 am (UTC)You are too kind to me. I can only hope that there are others on this vessel that may be willing to help both of us if we need it.
Re: [Action]
Date: 2012-03-07 06:27 pm (UTC)It's no problem. I hope so, too. We are, after all, on our own, here. We should make allies as much as possible.
